“Every form of addiction is bad, no matter whether the narcotic be alcohol or morphine or idealism.” – Carl Jung

1200px-Nicotine.svgI’ve always thought addiction was a choice, and in a lot of ways it is. People choose to take that first drink of alcohol. Few are forced to shoot up with heroin. And no one certainly forced me to smoke my first cigarette. However, once you are addicted to a substance – of any kind – it can be really tough to break.

I started smoking at the ripe age of thirteen, and for more than 20yrs I didn’t care. Children and science have a way of changing that. For a while I even went nicotine free. I’ve switched to vaping now, but I have sadly fallen behind my ability to control my cravings. I feel like a failure.

If nicotine is this hard, I don’t want to know the struggle with other drugs. I can’t imagine.

For all those struggling out there with ANY addiction….keep your head up! We can do this!
