There’s no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing. – Alfred Wainwright

Yesterday was awesome and awful all at the same time. I attempted to do a free photography session event at Northway Park in Greenwood to bolster my portfolio and to check out the location only for it to be one hundred degrees plus after the heat index with a high pollen count and humidity. It was miserable. I managed to get through two photography sessions before my body was like “nope” and got horribly ill.

I find it hard to come to terms with the fact that there are so many people out there that don’t believe in climate change. Granted, I don’t know what the weather is doing around the world, but here in Indiana we no longer have our beautiful four seasons. Gone are the beautiful spring days with mild temperatures and budding flowers. Gone are the gorgeous fall days filled with temperature suitable for long sleeves, but not quite cool enough for hoodies. We now have summer and winter. That’s it. We go from one extreme to the other with construction all year. This would be acceptable if I had beautiful sandy beaches and palm trees to look at, but no…this is Indiana. We have corn.

Anyways, after the photo sessions I came home to edit, laid down, and slept most of the evening and night. It was ridiculous how sick the heat made me, so I’m going to have to plan better for future sessions. With that said, both of my clients yesterday were thrilled with my pictures and it warmed my heart at their reactions. One called me via Facebook messenger saying I was going to make her cry with how much she loved them, and the other sent me a really heartfelt message about them. This is why I love doing what I do. I may not always be able to tolerate being around people, but when I have that lens in my face and I’m taking photos…..its where I find peace. Its my happy place. I’ll probably never make a living doing what I love, but as long as it continues to make me happy I’m going to continue doing it.
